But… I just don’t. I suspect if the two of them got more and better screen time together I would, but as is they just don’t have the right kind of chemistry to overcome the fact that their dynamic is not really the kind I like to ship. As I understand it, Rhodey is sort of a connection to a part of Tony’s life he didn’t really want to stick with, you know? In that he’s very much a military liaison and worked with Tony on weapons before he did the whole “I want to get into clean energy and out of bigass guns and rockets” thing. And usually I like reading about pairings who can broaden each other’s horizons and help each other move in directions they want to go, sometimes even become better people. 

I mean, I’m shallow, I’ll ship just about anyone if they’re pretty and their chemistry is hot. But I don’t think Rhodey is really into Tony at all. Tony is his exasperating semi-competent bro. That’s all I get, as hard as I try.

I agree with you. I don’t think Tony is the kind of person Rhodey is looking for, or who would be good for him in the long run. Also, both Rhodey’s and Pepper’s instinctual reaction to Tony’s everything is “Tony, no”, as they see him as a big child, and that is not a healthy relationship dynamic.

(And while I adore Pepperony, I don’t think they are going to remain together forever. Pepper is the CEO of Stark Industries and her life is chaotic enough already. On top of that, she doesn’t need a boyfriend who is a superhero, she needs somebody who is steady and reliable, and Tony is not those things.)
